The CHEP was developed to meet the need for practical but professional certification for healthcare emergency executives, managers, coordinators, and associates. The Board received input from practicing healthcare emergency and disaster professionals when developing this designation. The program relies on information, standards, and best practices from reliable sources including organizations such NFPA, ASTM, DHS, EPA, OSHA, FEMA, ASHE, and the Joint Commission.  Healthcare organizations need professionals who understand how emergency management principles support the healthcare environment of care and the community.

 The CHEP exam covers the entire field of healthcare emergency preparedness to include: Incident Command System, NIMS, Hazard Vulnerability Analysis, Sustainability, and more.  Earning the CHEP indicates that the certified professional should be able to effectively support the goals and objectives related to effective healthcare emergency management. Safety Training Innovators provides classroom CHEP test preparation. for candidates wishing to sit the exam. The cost of the class is $650 and includes the workshop and a study guide, sent to you on receipt of payment, to help to prepare you for the exam.
